The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) has announced a free rabies vaccination clinic in collaboration with the Chautauqua County Humane Society. The event will provide vaccinations for dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets aged three months and older at no cost.

The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Chautauqua County Humane Society located at 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies.

In addition to rabies shots, canine distemper vaccinations will also be available while supplies last. Pet owners are encouraged to register early due to limited availability. If unable to attend after registering, it is advised to cancel the appointment via the confirmation email received upon registration.

Pet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot. Dogs should be leashed, while cats and ferrets need to be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will manage the transport of animals for vaccination.

New York State Public Health Law mandates that all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets over four months old receive rabies vaccinations. The CCHD urges county residents to comply with this law as part of responsible pet ownership.

Rabies is a serious disease caused by a virus affecting warm-blooded animals like raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes. It can be transmitted through saliva via bites or scratches and leads to severe health consequences if untreated.

For further details about the clinic or general information on rabies prevention, contact the Chautauqua County Humane Society at 716-665-2209 or visit HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies.
