On March 11, 2025, Senator George Borrello issued a statement criticizing Governor Hochul's executive order that bans striking corrections officers from obtaining government jobs. Borrello described the order as "vindictive and authoritarian," arguing that it unfairly targets public servants who were pushed to strike due to "dangerous policies" and a lack of response to their concerns.
Borrello stated, "Firing 2,000 corrections officers wasn’t enough—now she’s blacklisting them from all state jobs and municipal law enforcement jobs." He emphasized that these individuals were not involved in criminal or corrupt activities but were instead advocating for their safety and that of their families.
The senator accused Governor Hochul of engaging in "political retribution" rather than addressing what he termed as "profound safety failures." He questioned her ability to lead effectively under such circumstances.
In his message to the affected officers, Borrello assured them of his continued support: "To the officers impacted by this disgraceful action: you are not forgotten. I will keep fighting for you and pushing back against this abuse of power. This fight is far from over."
