New York State Senator George Borrello recognized retired Army Master Sgt. Francisco "Frank" Morales for his military service and dedication to veterans by inducting him into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at St. Bonaventure University’s Doyle Conference Center, attended by Morales' family, friends, and colleagues.
Senator Borrello praised Sgt. Morales as a hero whose impact extends beyond the battlefield. “Sergeant Morales embodies the spirit of service, both on and off the battlefield," he said. Morales enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1990 and served for over 20 years, completing five overseas deployments, including two tours in Afghanistan.
During his second deployment to Afghanistan in 2006, Morales demonstrated bravery under fire as a convoy commander in Paktika Province, actions that earned him the Silver Star Medal. After retiring in 2010, he joined St. Bonaventure University as a senior Military Science instructor with the Army ROTC program and later became Director of Military Aligned Students.
Bernie Valento from St. Bonaventure highlighted Morales' leadership in supporting veterans and their families: “Frank is an incredible leader." Retired Brigadier General Arthur Austin also commended Morales' command abilities during combat situations.
Sgt. Morales expressed gratitude for the recognition: "I’m deeply honored to be recognized in this way." His military accolades include several medals such as the Silver Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal.
The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame honors veterans who have served with distinction and continue contributing to their communities.
