Wayne County: How many students met or exceeded expectations in the English Language Arts test in 2021-22 school year?

Of the 1,877 students in Wayne County who took the 2021-22 English Language Arts test, 23.7% met expectations and 7.4% did better than expected, according to the New York State Education Department.

In total, 31.1% of the students met or exceeded expections in Wayne County, a decrease of 11.2% compared to the previous school year.

Within the county, Wayne Central Elementary School students performed the best in English Language Arts, with 42% of them considered proficient in the subject. Meanwhile, Clyde-Savannah Elementary School students fared the worst, with only 16% passing the test.

The state registered an overall proficiency rate of 53% of students who met or exceeded expectations.

A 2021 report from the NYC Center for Innovation Through Data Intelligence found that outcomes for different racial and gender groups had improved since 2013. However, despite the improvements, significant gaps still persist, particularly among Black and Hispanic students.
