The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) has announced a free rabies vaccination clinic in collaboration with the Chautauqua County Humane Society. This event will offer vaccinations at no cost for dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets aged three months and older. Microchipping and distemper shots will also be available while supplies last.

The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, March 8th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Chautauqua County Humane Society located at 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701. Pet owners must pre-register online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies and should act quickly as spots are limited. If unable to attend after registering, it is requested that appointments be canceled to allow others to participate.

Pet owners need to bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot. All dogs must be leashed, while cats and ferrets should be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will manage transportation of pets to the veterinarian.

According to New York State Public Health Law, all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets over four months old must receive rabies vaccinations. The CCHD encourages county residents to ensure their pets are vaccinated.

Rabies is a serious viral disease affecting warm-blooded animals. It can spread through saliva via bites or scratches and affects the central nervous system leading to severe consequences if untreated.
