The Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Development (CCDPD) reported a successful year in 2024, as outlined during a presentation to the County Legislature’s Planning & Economic Development Sub-Committee. The session was held on February 19, 2025, in Mayville, where key department figures including Mark Geise, Deputy County Executive for Economic Development/CCIDA CEO; Rebecca Wurster, Planning Coordinator; Nate Aldrich, Economic Development Coordinator; and Dave McCoy, Watershed Coordinator discussed their achievements and future plans.
In 2024, CCDPD advanced 54 priority projects aligned with its work plan. It completed four plans and studies, administered 12 mandatory projects and committees, and facilitated 13 community outreach initiatives. The department secured five grants totaling over $3.38 million for targeted projects.
Rebecca Wurster emphasized the commitment of the planning division staff: “The planners and staff within the planning division are committed to ensuring that Chautauqua County remains a vibrant, sustainable place for all to live, work, and play.”
The Division of Economic Development worked closely with several agencies including CCIDA and CREDC to advance various economic development projects. The department managed around 40 economic development contracts and state grant funding initiatives.
Nate Aldrich highlighted the collaborative efforts: “Our County Department of Planning & Development and our CCIDA team work seamlessly to advance a number of important economic development projects and initiatives.”
The Watershed Division also had an active year administering over 38 projects focused on environmental improvement. Dave McCoy noted the significance of starting the Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration project for Chautauqua Lake after years of advocacy.
Mark Geise praised the department's contributions: “Once again, the County’s Department of Planning & Development has demonstrated why they are so important to the County.”
County Executive PJ Wendel commended the department's progress: “It’s been exciting to see the Department mature and continue to gain momentum over the past several years.”
