Chautauqua County residents are being advised to avoid unnecessary travel as a lake effect snowstorm continues. The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for the area, which will remain in effect until 7 PM on Monday, December 2. Forecasts predict snow accumulation of 2 to 4 feet in persistent snowbands, leading to whiteout conditions and dangerous roads.
"Staying home and off the roads during this storm not only protects you but also allows our crews to keep up with cleanup efforts and respond to emergencies as quickly as possible," stated County Executive PJ Wendel. "Your cooperation is essential for everyone’s safety and a prompt response."
County road crews are actively working to treat roads and manage real-time responses to the storm. Officials are coordinating with state and local partners to ensure resources and support are available as conditions change.
Residents who must travel should exercise extreme caution and carry a winter storm kit that includes essentials such as a flashlight, blankets, extra clothing, food, water, first aid supplies, and a shovel.
