Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. has voiced his opposition against the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision's recent policy to release convicted felons early. He labels the action as “shortsighted and dangerous."

Wendel calls upon Governor Hochul and state officials to reconsider this decision. He argues for a focus on long-term solutions, which include reinstating wrongfully terminated corrections officers, repealing legislation such as the HALT Act, and ensuring that correctional facilities are adequately staffed.

Wendel stresses the significance of justice for victims and the necessity of maintaining public safety. He urges the state to give precedence to law and order over policies that may put communities at risk.
