Chautauqua County is continuing its relief efforts to support hurricane victims in North Carolina by transporting donations to affected areas. On Sunday, local pilot Jeff Holowienko flew a plane filled with essential supplies from Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport to Avery County Airport in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts led by County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. and the airport management to assist those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

"We have seen incredible generosity from our community, and every contribution makes a difference," stated County Executive Wendel. "Let us come together in support of those who are in desperate need of our help."

The relief mission was made possible through the contributions of Great Lakes Flight School, which provided fuel for the flight, along with additional support from a member of the airport commission who also contributed fuel. Local pilots and volunteers have been crucial in delivering supplies to the affected regions.

Shannon Fischer, Chautauqua County’s Manager of Airports, expressed gratitude for the community's support: "We are incredibly grateful for the community's support, which makes it possible for us to assist those in need during this challenging time."

Since launching the donation campaign, Chautauqua County has been actively collecting essential supplies and monetary donations to aid those impacted by recent hurricanes. Avery County Airport has become a central hub for these relief efforts, initially handling over 150 planes daily and utilizing around 12,000 gallons of aviation fuel within six days. However, as time progresses, donations have begun to slow down.

"The people affected by these hurricanes are facing unimaginable challenges, and our support can provide them with the essential supplies and resources they desperately need," said Fischer. "Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant impact in helping our neighbors rebuild and recover."

Avery County is now requesting donations exclusively through specified online links such as Amazon Donation List and Walmart Donation List. More information on contributing to these efforts can be found at CHQGov.com/aid. Monetary donations are also accepted directly by Avery County Airport Authority.
