The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) has announced a free rabies vaccination clinic in partnership with the City of Jamestown. The event will be held at the Taylor Training Center, located at 240 Harrison St., Jamestown, NY, on Saturday, October 26th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Vaccinations are available for dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets aged three months and older.
Pre-registration is mandatory and can be completed online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies. Pet owners are encouraged to register promptly due to limited availability. If registrants cannot attend, they should cancel their appointments through the confirmation email received upon registration. Walk-ins may be accommodated towards the end of the clinic if space allows.
Pet owners must bring prior rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot. Dogs must be leashed while cats and ferrets need to be in carriers. Animal handlers will assist in transporting pets from vehicles to veterinarians for vaccinations.
New York State Public Health Law mandates that all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets over four months old must receive rabies vaccinations. Rabies is a severe disease affecting warm-blooded animals caused by a virus transmitted through saliva via bites or scratches. It can lead to brain swelling and death shortly after symptoms appear.
