Veterans Wellness Fair in Celoron promotes health and community engagement

The third annual Veterans Wellness Fair, hosted by the Suicide Prevention Veteran Subcommittee of the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, took place on August 7, 2024, at the Celoron Legion in Celoron, NY. The event aimed to promote health, wellness, and community engagement among veterans.

Cindy Reidy, Project Coordinator of the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program, and Carri Raynor, Director of the Suicide Prevention Alliance, coordinated the fair which featured 35 local and regional services and agencies. Attendees had access to a variety of health and wellness screenings provided by experts in their fields. A lunch was also provided to facilitate relaxation and social interaction among participants.

Christopher Ramnauth, LCSW, Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator for Suicide Prevention at VA Western New York Health Care System commented on the collaborative efforts: “The VA Western New York Healthcare System is working collaboratively with the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, Veteran Subcommittee to decrease Veteran suicide. The Veterans Wellness Day Event is just one example of our partnership and shared goal.”

Carri Raynor highlighted the significance of ongoing support: "We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive impact this event has had. It's crucial that we continue to provide resources and build a network of support for our veterans."

The Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County focuses on promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention through various community initiatives. The PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program offers peer-to-peer support for veterans across Chautauqua County to help them cope with PTSD & TBI while connecting them with other service providers as needed.
