Pioneer Middle School had the highest enrollment among Cattaraugus County schools, welcoming 662 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 94.6% of the Pioneer Middle School's total enrollment.

Among the 28 schools in Cattaraugus County, Olean Senior High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 660 students, while Pioneer Senior High School welcomed 658 students and came in third in the 2022-23 school year.

Pioneer Middle School is part of Yorkshire-Pioneer Central School District, which roughly covers two schools within Cattaraugus County and has a main office in Allegany.

In the previous school year, Pioneer Senior High School had the highest number of students among Cattaraugus County schools.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
