Sue Gagne, a registered nurse (RN), has committed over 20 years of her life to making a significant difference in the lives of individuals grappling with mental health issues. Her journey began when she sought assistance for a family member in need, which inspired her to embark on a mission that she felt drawn to.

Gagne started her career at the Mental Health Association of Genesee & Orleans Counties in a part-time capacity. Her dedication and passion propelled her to the role of Executive Director. She later took on the vital position of Dual Recovery Coordinator for Genesee, Orleans, and Wyoming counties, where she worked tirelessly to connect the substance use disorder and mental health communities.

In 2019, Gagne played an instrumental role in initiating and launching the Uconnect Care (formerly GCASA) Recovery Center in Genesee County. During this time, she also achieved her long-held goal of becoming a registered nurse by graduating from Genesee County Community College in 2023.

Currently, Gagne serves as the Assistant Director of Adult Services at the Wyoming County Mental Health Department. She focuses on supporting individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). In addition to this role, she also functions as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Genesee County Mental Health Department, spearheading various suicide prevention initiatives.

Gagne attributes her professional growth and transformative journey to her participation in Leadership Genesee - a year-long citizenship education and leadership development program. She also acknowledges her faith as an essential element that helps her continue working with those who are often marginalized.

Active within professional organizations and community programs, Gagne's roles include serving on the State Board of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), providing family perspectives at Crisis Intervention Training for local law enforcement agencies, and acting as Co-Chair of the Family, Loved Ones & Allies subcommittee of the region’s opioid task force.

Gagne and her husband, Neil, live in Stafford, New York, and have two adult children.
