Alfred University's William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) was named for the second time this season as the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, as made official in an announcement on Monday from Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.

Despite a road loss to powerhouse, Ithaca College, LaMastus was lights-out on the weekend, winning two of his individual events and taking third in the last as well as taking a second place relay finish. His first individual win was also the first Saxon victory of the day on Saturday, clocking in a time of 54.14 in the 100-yard backstroke, defeating the rest of the lanes by almost a whole second. LaMastus doubled-up on his backstroke victories when he won the 50-yard with a time of 24.93, defeating the entire pool by over half a second.

His next highest finish was when he teamed with Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's), Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal) and Alessandro Lagos Canales (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming the first leg as the group finished with a time of 1:39.31, edging the B-team from Ithaca by 0.10 seconds. They were less than 0.40 seconds away from first place in the event. LaMastus's final event was in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking in a time of 4:27.44 for third place.

He was joined in the Empire 8 listings by Robby Hicks (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) as the Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week. LaMastus was also named a Saxon of the Week on Monday along with women's track & field's Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County).
