Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. delivered an impassioned 2024 State of the County Address in Mayville, NY, painting a vibrant picture of a future characterized by resilience, prosperity, and unified community effort. Wendel's speech highlighted the county's achievements and outlined ambitious plans for economic growth and community development.

Wendel began his address by acknowledging the collective efforts that drove Chautauqua County forward in 2023, emphasizing the surge in business investment and strategic workforce development initiatives that boosted the local economy. He praised the county's commitment to fiscal conservatism, noting prudent budgeting practices and tax relief measures that have placed the county in a solid fiscal position.

"Thanks to steady growth and fiscally conservative budgeting, Chautauqua County's property tax rate stands at $6.91 per $1,000 of assessed valuation—a notable 89 cents below last year's rate and the lowest since 1982. Since taking office, we've reduced the property tax rate by $1.51, providing significant relief to our residents," Wendel stated.

The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) spearheaded projects totaling $842 million in 2023, aiming to create permanent jobs and diversify the economy. Wendel highlighted collaborative efforts with various organizations to drive economic development and enhance the county's prosperity.

Looking ahead, Wendel outlined plans for initiatives such as the Live CHQ and Choose CHQ branding campaigns to attract businesses, residents, and visitors to the county. He also announced the development of a shovel-ready industrial park in the Town of Ripley and emphasized the importance of collaboration in securing funding for critical projects.

Wendel also addressed the county's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through investments in mental health services, substance abuse response, and re-entry programs. He introduced Vision 2024, an initiative to modernize county office spaces for increased efficiency and employee satisfaction.

In conclusion, Wendel expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share his vision for Chautauqua County's future and called upon residents to renew their determination and strength. He emphasized the county's resilience, economic prosperity, and commitment to community well-being.

"OUR COUNTY stands tall as a testament to our resilience, elevating services for our residents, enriching their lives, and cultivating unprecedented economic prosperity. OUR VISION for County Government has become the bedrock of our efforts, anchoring our county's long-term financial stability. OUR FUTURE is full of promise and possibility, fueled by the successful actions we have taken and the strategic investments we are making," Wendel concluded.

Chautauqua County's State of the County Address reflects a vision of resilience, prosperity, and community collaboration, setting the stage for continued growth and development in the years ahead.
