Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. delivered an impassioned 2024 State of the County Address in Mayville, NY, painting a vibrant picture of a future characterized by resilience, prosperity, and unified community effort. "Thanks to steady growth and fiscally conservative budgeting, Chautauqua County's property tax rate stands at $6.91 per $1,000 of assessed valuation—a notable 89 cents below last year's rate and the lowest since 1982. Since taking office, we've reduced the property tax rate by $1.51, providing significant relief to our residents," Wendel stated.

The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) spearheaded projects totaling $842 million in 2023, aiming to create permanent jobs and diversify the economy. Wendel highlighted collaborative efforts with various organizations to drive economic development and enhance the county's prosperity.

Looking ahead, Wendel outlined plans for initiatives such as the Live CHQ and Choose CHQ branding campaigns to attract businesses, residents, and visitors to the county. He also announced the development of a shovel-ready industrial park in the Town of Ripley and emphasized the importance of collaboration in securing funding for critical projects.

Wendel also addressed the county's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through investments in mental health services, substance abuse response, and re-entry programs.
