With the General Election on November 5, 2024, approaching, the Chautauqua County Board of Elections has announced four early voting locations and extended hours. Commissioners Luz E. Torres and Brian C. Abram have also introduced a new public service announcement to educate residents about early voting.
"Chautauqua County will open four poll sites for Early Voting," stated Commissioner Torres & Abram. The locations include the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk, the Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood, the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, and a new site at the Carlson Community Center in Mayville for this year's election.
"Due to the expected high turnout for this year’s Election, we have decided to move the Mayville location from the Board of Elections office to the Carlson Community Center," stated Commissioner Abram. Commissioner Torres added that "the location within the Mall will be different for this year’s Early Voting."
Each site will feature signage indicating entrances and is accessible to all registered voters in Chautauqua County. They can vote at any of these locations during specified hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 9 AM to 5 PM; Monday and Tuesday from 12 PM to 8 PM; Wednesday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The early voting period runs from October 26 to November 3.
All sites are handicap accessible and provide a Ballot Marking Device for voters with disabilities. Voters who cast their ballot early cannot vote again during subsequent days or on Election Day. Recent law changes mean those requesting an Absentee Ballot can only vote using a Provisional Affidavit Ballot if they haven't returned their Absentee Ballot.
The Board of Elections website offers Sample Ballots for voters to view before heading to a poll site, which will also be available at each early voting location.
