The Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center opened on July 15 as the first of its kind in the region. This new facility is a walk-in mental health clinic for individuals up to the age of 18, allowing them to receive care without a prior appointment. The clinic provides evaluations and interventions for young people and their families experiencing acute distress. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver throughout their visit.
Families are encouraged, but not required, to call the UR Medicine Crisis Call Line at (585) 275-8686 before visiting the center. Speaking with a mental health professional can facilitate access to appropriate care promptly.
The clinic's staff can assist with various needs. If it is determined that a child cannot safely return home or requires admission to another service, the Urgent Care Center will support families through this transition.
Families should bring relevant documentation when applicable for their walk-in visits. The clinic has 15 patient rooms staffed by 30 caregivers, including mental health counselors, social workers, nurses, psychologists, case managers, and support staff.
For life-threatening situations or medical emergencies, families are advised to call 911.
