Jimmy Watts, age 49 of Dunkirk, was sentenced yesterday, April 9th, to a determinate state prison sentenced of 8 years with 5 years of post-release supervision by Judge David Foley after being convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C violent felony. In March 2023, the Dunkirk Police Department responded to a report of an individual waiving a gun and pointing it at patrons of a business on Lakeshore Drive in the City of Dunkirk. In September 2023 Mr. Watts pled guilty to the weapon charge and did not receive a reduction.

The District Attorney expressed gratitude towards the Dunkirk Police Department, stating, "The District Attorney would like to thank the Dunkirk Police Department for their swift response and hard work on this case." Additionally, the prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Molitor.

This sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that can result from the illegal possession of weapons and the importance of swift and thorough law enforcement response in such cases.
