The Chautauqua County Health Department in New York is gearing up to celebrate National Public Health Week (NPHW) from April 1 to 7. According to the Chautauqua County Public Health Director, Lacey Wilson, community engagement plays a crucial role in improving individual and public health. Wilson emphasizes that being actively involved in the community fosters a sense of responsibility, understanding, and a desire for inclusivity and responsiveness to the needs of others.

The Health Department is responsible for overseeing various core service areas, including chronic disease prevention, emergency preparedness, family health, infectious disease surveillance, and community and environmental health. To promote community involvement, the department is collaborating with the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development to enhance green spaces throughout the county, ensuring equitable access to outdoor resources for all residents.
