Senator George Borrello has voiced his concerns regarding Governor Hochul’s recently unveiled $233 billion spending plan. In a statement released on Jan 16, 2024, Borrello expressed disappointment, stating, “While we will be delving into the details of Governor Hochul’s $233 billion spending plan in the coming days, my first reaction is that it’s a missed opportunity to tackle New York’s biggest problems and put us on a stronger course for the future."
Borrello highlighted various issues within the budget proposal, including the lack of measures to address New York's outmigration crisis, the alarming proposal to close five prisons, the risk of rural schools losing essential aid, and the questionable allocation of funds for a migrant crisis. He criticized the sanctuary policies implemented by Democrats, attributing them as a catalyst for the influx of migrants and burdening New York taxpayers.
Expressing the need for a change in priorities to reverse New York's downward trajectory, Borrello emphasized the importance of advocating for rural and suburban communities. He pledged to work on advancing proposals that would steer the state back on track.
