Wyoming County Community Hospital S N F emerged as the largest nursing home in Wyoming County during the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility offered 138 beds during that period, which was 29 more than the county average for Wyoming County in the first quarter of 2026. On average, 134.4 residents received care at the facility in that time frame.

The CMS awarded Wyoming County Community Hospital S N F an overall rating of 5 out of 5, surpassing New York’s nursing home average rating of 3.1.

East Side Nursing Home held the position of the county’s second largest nursing center during the quarter, providing 80 beds.

The nursing home maintained a record free of fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Wyoming County, New York, counted one public nursing home for the period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the country’s older adult population is rising as the share of children falls. From 2020 to 2024, individuals age 65 and older increased by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s increase in older adults has been dramatic, moving from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans in this age group—close to 28 million—may require long-term services and support. Additionally, projections suggest over one-third may eventually need nursing facility care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
