The annual burn ban in New York State has commenced, running from March 16 to May 14. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) emphasizes the importance of this prohibition on residential brush burning to prevent wildfires.

This regulation, enforced since 2009, aims to minimize the incidence and impact of wildfires across the state. According to DEC, "Over the past 9 years, due to this regulation, wildfires have decreased across the state by more than 40 percent." Despite this reduction, any wildfire poses a threat to life and property and can be prevented.

Further information about open burning regulations is available on the DEC's website.
