The Chautauqua County Health Department, in collaboration with the Village of Fredonia, has lifted the boil water order for all water customers in Fredonia, including those outside the village limits. This decision follows confirmation that water leaving the treatment plant has been properly treated since late Wednesday night, February 5th.
According to two consecutive days of sample results, the water throughout the distribution system is now deemed safe for various uses such as drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and making coffee. However, it is advised that any plumbing lines not regularly used since the boil water order was enacted should be flushed before consumption. This includes flushing ice makers and refrigerator water dispensers.
Residents who did not receive regular updates about the boil water order are encouraged to sign up for notifications through the NY Alert system at https://alert.ny.gov/sign-ny-alert-0. Those seeking more information on municipal water systems' operation and regulation can visit the New York State Department of Health website at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/water/drinking/.
