Chautauqua County recently honored Ron Hasson for his extensive service in emergency medical services (EMS) during a full legislature meeting. A Letter of Commendation, signed by County Executive Paul M. Wendel, Jr., highlighted Mr. Hasson's nearly 50 years of contributions to EMS and the community.
Ron Hasson started his career with the Celoron Fire Department in 1975, eventually becoming Fire Chief for five years. His journey in EMS began in 1977 as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Jamestown Community College. He was soon asked to teach CPR and practical skills, marking the start of a significant career in EMS education and leadership.
Mr. Hasson's career achievements include serving as Senior Instructor for EMT courses and Coordinator of EMT Training at Jamestown Community College from 1984 to 2023. In 1998, he became one of New York State's original 50 instructors certified to train EMT instructors, appointed by the Department of Health. He also taught Advanced Cardiac, Pediatric, and Trauma Life Support courses and earned a National Paramedic certification.
He played a key role in creating Starflight Medevac in 1986, serving as a flight medic for seven years before taking on administrative duties within the program. Mr. Hasson worked full-time with WCA Hospital and UPMC Healthcare systems, retiring as EMS Resources Manager after 46 years.
Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Hasson participated actively in several organizations such as the Chautauqua County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Chautauqua County EMS Council, and New York State EMS leadership committees. In recognition of his efforts, he received the New York State Commissioner of Health’s EMS Leadership Award in 1993.
“Ron’s contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary. His dedication to teaching, leading, and advancing EMS services has made a profound impact on our community and beyond,” said County Executive Wendel. “We thank Ron for his decades of service and wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.”
The commendation reflects Chautauqua County's appreciation for Mr. Hasson's lifelong commitment to emergency services, education, and public safety.
