A Tornado Watch has been issued for nearly all of New York State from 12 noon until 9 p.m. today, July 10, 2024, by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service.
"Remember that a watch means that a tornado is POSSIBLE... a Tornado WARNING would be 'worse' and means that a tornado is LIKELY," the announcement stated. Residents are advised to stay close to an alert system such as TV or cell phones to receive updates throughout the day. The remnants of Beryl passing through could bring severe weather throughout the day and evening.
The New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services added, "Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds & localized flash flooding are expected throughout NYS today."
Authorities urge residents to be prepared, know their risk, and stay informed by following local forecasts for weather updates. They also recommend signing up for alerts at http://alert.ny.gov and remind everyone, "When thunder roars, go indoors!"
