Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. has announced the appointment of Ana Morgan as the new County Attorney. Morgan, who brings extensive experience and a distinguished professional background, is expected to uphold high standards of legal service for the county.

Morgan holds dual law degrees from the University of Zagreb (Croatia, EU) and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is a double-qualified attorney with significant experience in both civil and criminal law. Her legal practice in New York State has focused on family, criminal, and administrative matters, both in private practice and through her years of civil service with Chautauqua County. Most recently, she served as the Social Services Attorney with the Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services, where she represented the department before various courts and tribunals, particularly in child welfare cases involving neglect and abuse.

Additionally, Morgan has held several legal positions within the county, progressively advancing through the ranks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as Deputy Chief Clerk of Chautauqua County Family Court, gaining proficiency in employment, administrative tasks, IT management, organizational skills, managerial duties, and other essential aspects of managing a government office.

One notable aspect of her career includes her involvement in child neglect and abuse cases. Although specific details cannot be disclosed due to confidentiality concerns, Morgan emphasized the dedicated work of county caseworkers who intervene to protect vulnerable children and adults.

Morgan’s decision to pursue the role of County Attorney was influenced by her productive relationships within county administration. She felt welcomed by colleagues and received strong encouragement from County Executive Wendel.

In her new role as County Attorney, Morgan aims to maintain high-quality legal services while expanding expertise within her office to adapt swiftly to evolving needs. She plans to leverage IT tools for enhanced efficiency and maintain open communication with both the public and all county departments.

"I am fortunate to work within the County Attorney’s Office," said Morgan. "My primary role is to continue delivering high-quality legal services while expanding our capabilities and adapting to evolving needs."

County Executive Wendel expressed confidence in Morgan's leadership: "Ana's extensive experience and dedication make her an invaluable asset. I am confident that under her leadership, the County Attorney's Office will continue upholding high standards."

Wendel believes that Ana Morgan will bring a fresh approach to her role while continuing a tradition of excellence in serving Chautauqua County.
