The ongoing strikes at Collins and Elmira Correctional Facilities have prompted a statement from Senator George Borrello. The senator expressed concern over the working conditions within state prisons, describing them as “dangerous and deteriorating.” He highlighted that these environments have resulted in numerous injuries among corrections staff, affecting both their physical health and morale.

Senator Borrello criticized the governor for failing to address these issues and the legislature for not providing relief, attributing this to what he termed as “pro-criminal policies.” He stated, “The so-called ‘pro-labor’ Democrats, who have championed strikes and protests to demand better working conditions in other sectors, seem to have completely ignored the struggles of those who risk their lives daily behind prison walls.”

Borrello accused these Democrats of hypocrisy for claiming to support workers’ rights while neglecting corrections staff. He emphasized his support for those working under hazardous conditions in prisons: “I stand with those who put their own safety on the line every day. They deserve our respect and support.”
