In Warsaw, New York, the Vertical CafĂ© celebrated its 10th anniversary with a notable recognition. Senator George Borrello presented the New York State Senate Empire Award to the cafĂ©’s owners, acknowledging their decade-long contribution to community building and local revitalization.

“Vertical CafĂ© is everything a community-focused business should be,” said Senator Borrello. “For ten years, it has served as a gathering place, a job creator, and a source of inspiration for Warsaw and beyond. I’m proud to present the Empire Award in recognition of Rodd Proefrock’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to uplifting those around him.”

Established in Perry in 2015 and moved to Warsaw in 2017, Vertical CafĂ© has become an integral part of the local scene under Rodd Proefrock’s leadership. The cafĂ© emphasizes values such as hard work and family while providing opportunities for young people.

The cafĂ©’s influence extends beyond its primary offerings. In 2021, Rodd Proefrock initiated the transformation of an alley behind the cafĂ© into “Alley in the Valley,” a public space now used for gatherings and cultural events.

Rodd also started the Vertical Café Podcast to spotlight local influencers and created a quarterly Hospitality Award for outstanding team members.

Scott Gardner, President of the Wyoming County Chamber and Tourism office stated: “Congratulations to Rodd Proefrock, his family, and the entire team at Vertical Cafe on their 10-year anniversary. We sincerely congratulate them on receiving the prestigious NYS Senate Empire Award presented by Senator Borrello.”

“It’s an honor and humbling to receive this award as it confirms that we are doing what God has called us to do within our community,” said Rodd Proefrock.

Senator Borrello added: “As we mark a decade of Vertical Café, we’re not just celebrating a successful small business. We’re honoring a family’s commitment to making Warsaw stronger, kinder, and more connected.”

The New York State Senate Empire Award honors small businesses that demonstrate excellence in enterprise and have significant community impact.
