Registered voters in Cattaraugus County are reminded that Saturday, February 14, is the deadline to change party enrollment ahead of the June 23, 2026 Primary Election. The Board of Elections announced that only those enrolled in a political party can participate in New York State’s closed primary system.

To ensure changes are effective for the upcoming primary, enrollment change requests must be received by the Board of Elections by February 14. Changes submitted after this date will take effect seven days following the June Primary. The Board of Elections office will be open on Saturday, February 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to accommodate last-minute submissions.

Voters can update their enrollment by submitting a new voter registration form through several methods. “Note that a mailed application must still be received by the Board of Elections by Feb. 14 to be effective before the primary, so personal delivery is the safer option,” said Commissioners Kevin Burleson and Cortney Spittler.

Paper forms are available at local post offices, municipal buildings, or directly from the Board of Elections. Voters may also call 716-938-2400 to request a form or ask questions about registration.

Anyone unsure about their current voter registration or party enrollment status can verify it online at voterlookup.elections.ny.gov.

Cattaraugus County operates under a legislature with fifteen members and employs a county administrator who oversees daily operations and public services across various departments. The county also supports youth development and community rehabilitation through targeted programs and maintains nursing homes in Olean and Machias for long-term care needs. Additionally, Cattaraugus County manages real property taxes for over fifty-one thousand parcels throughout different districts.
