Many residents are focusing on preparedness in light of recent storms. New York’s “Triple Three Triple One” emergency alert system offers a straightforward way to receive real-time emergency and weather alerts from the New York Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
To sign up for alerts, residents can text the name of their county to 333111. For example, to receive alerts for Cattaraugus County, users should start a new text message, enter 333111 as the recipient, and type “Cattaraugus” in the message area. If someone wants alerts from multiple counties, they need to send separate messages for each county.
The system is designed to be user-friendly without requiring navigation through complicated websites. Residents are encouraged to assist family members or neighbors who may not be familiar with texting technology.
