FOIA Request to Suny College of Technology at Alfred regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

West NY News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Suny College of Technology at Alfred. The request seeks information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution. The inquiry is part of an effort to understand the demographic composition and financial support structures for these students within the university.

The FOIA request specifically asks for documents or lists that show all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including details about their department of study. If individual names are protected, a total number broken down by department is requested instead. Additionally, the request seeks information on scholarships received by these students, detailing the amount and source of each scholarship. Furthermore, it requests identification of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

In addition to student data, West NY News has asked for policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request was made under New York’s Freedom of Information Law and includes a plea for a fee waiver due to West NY News’s role in disseminating public information. The news organization is collaborating with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, which aids media outlets in investigating governmental actions through transparency laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
