Chautauqua County will observe Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week from May 4 to May 10, 2025. The week acknowledges the resilience and strength of children and youth and highlights the importance of fostering supportive communities where children feel valued.
On May 8, during the week’s activities, residents are encouraged to partake in Wear Green Day. Green is the designated color for mental health awareness, symbolizing life, growth, and the potential for recovery.
This year’s theme, “Small Steps. Big Impact.”, emphasizes the significance of simple actions. Community members and families in Chautauqua County can contribute in several ways:
Talking openly with children about their feelings can build trust and provide emotional safety. Encouraging children to express emotions through art, journaling, or play is also advised.
The initiative also urges participation in Wear Green Day to enhance visibility, which fosters acceptance. Chautauqua Tapestry provides resources for families seeking support and guidance through local youth mental health systems.
The community is encouraged to model self-care habits, as children observe and learn from adults. Practicing mindfulness, maintaining routines, and prioritizing wellness can have a positive impact.
This effort aims to foster a healthier future, focusing on small actions that together can lead to a significant impact.
