As Dana Corwin enters her second year as Director of the Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services, she reflects on the progress made during 2025 and outlines plans for continued support to older adults in the county.
Corwin acknowledged community feedback over the past 16 months, noting that residents have requested more transportation options, better communication from the office, expanded home care services, and stronger caregiver support. “We listened—and we acted,” Corwin stated.
Throughout 2025, the Office for Aging Services organized a range of programs including Car Fit safe driving classes, legal forums, energy education sessions, flu clinics, Memory Cafés for caregivers and their loved ones, Medicare and health insurance counseling, caregiver support groups both in-person and online, and brain health education in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. The office also distributed farmers market coupons and Ring Doorbells to improve safety at home. In June, efforts focused on combating elder abuse with various community partners. October featured participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. During the holiday season, nearly 200 older adults benefited from the Santa for Seniors campaign.
Looking ahead to 2026, Corwin said that efforts will focus on expanding transportation options and enhancing supports for caregivers—including respite services—and helping them access new resources. Plans include further innovation in home care services and launching a monthly newsletter to keep residents informed.
The Second Annual CHQ Aging Expo and Conference is scheduled for May 21, 2026 at SUNY Fredonia as part of Older Americans Month celebrations.
“We look forward to continuing this journey with you—listening, learning, and working together to ensure Chautauqua County remains a great place to age,” Corwin said.
