An initiative aimed at supporting individuals who have experienced loss through suicide is set to be launched by the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County in collaboration with the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene. The organizations offer a Virtual Suicide Bereavement Support Group this spring to aid participants in their grief journey.
The upcoming sessions start on April 8 and continue until June 10, with meetings scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 PM (EST). This group requires registration as it is a closed group.
“Grief is what we feel internally—our emotions, thoughts, and responses to loss,” the announcement articulated. “Mourning is how we express that grief outwardly, through actions, rituals, and support from others.”
Participants in this support group will have the opportunity to better understand the distinctions between grief and mourning, share personal experiences in a supportive setting, and explore methods to cope with emotions triggered by loss. The aim is to connect with others who have navigated the pain of suicide loss.

This session marks the last cycle before the summer break, with groups set to resume on October 7 and continue until December 16. “Losing a loved one to suicide is a life-altering experience, but no one has to navigate it alone,” as highlighted in the announcement.
