In Mayville, New York, Chautauqua County will observe Mental Health Awareness Month with official proclamations issued by County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. The proclamations identify May as Mental Health Awareness Month, May 4-10 as Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week, and May 8 as Wear Green Day.

The proclamations will be announced during the Children’s Single Point of Access meeting, which will not be open to the public. However, the county plans to spread the message of acceptance and awareness through various initiatives throughout May.

Each year, Mental Health Awareness Month aims to raise awareness and spark conversations about mental health. This year’s theme is “Small Steps. Big Impact.,” highlighting the importance of small everyday actions in creating a supportive community.

Residents, schools, and organizations can participate using the 2025 Mental Health Awareness Month Toolkit. The toolkit offers resources, including social media graphics, educational tips, and a calendar of activities. It also promotes the #MentalHealthRocksCHQ campaign to encourage positivity within the community.

The toolkit features details on the 2025 MHAM Art Contest which invites students and community members to submit art reflecting on mental health by May 23.

Chautauqua County will further recognize mental health awareness through Spirit Week during Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week, May 4-10. The week will feature themed activities promoting kindness and acceptance, ending with Wear Green Day on May 8 when residents are encouraged to wear green.

“Through these proclamations and activities, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting mental health for all community members, especially our children and youth,” said Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. “Together, we can create a community where everyone feels supported, understood, and empowered to take small steps that make a big impact.”

The community is urged to engage by utilizing the toolkit, taking part in Spirit Week, submitting art, and spreading positive messages via the #MentalHealthRocksCHQ campaign.
