As Suicide Prevention Month approaches this September, the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County is calling for community involvement to raise awareness and honor lives lost. The alliance has organized several events where individuals can participate in various activities such as walking, riding, golfing, running, or volunteering.
One of the events is the Veterans Ride for Suicide Awareness scheduled for August 16 in Silver Creek, NY. This motorcycle dice run honors veterans who have died by suicide and aims to raise awareness about mental health issues within the veteran community. It is organized by the Veteran Subcommittee and welcomes all participants.
Another event is the Raynor Memorial Golf Tournament on August 30 at Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Randolph, NY. This annual tournament honors Dan Raynor and others who have been lost to suicide. Participants can enjoy a day of golf along with raffles and meals while supporting a life-saving cause.
The United for HOPE Walk Series marks a collaborative effort across Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties. The walk series aims to amplify support within these communities and highlight collaborative efforts across counties. Walks are scheduled as follows: Allegany County on September 6 in Wellsville, Chautauqua County on September 13 at Ellery Town Park in Bemus Point, and Cattaraugus County on September 20 in Olean.
On September 27, the Stomp Out the Stigma 5K will take place at Jamestown Airport in Chautauqua County. Formerly known as the Glow Run, this event features a race on an airport runway with lights, music, glow gear, and more. Registration begins at 5:15 PM with the race starting at 6:15 PM.
