The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) has announced a free rabies vaccination clinic, sponsored by the Town of Poland and CCHD. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Town of Poland Highway Department located at 533 Grubb Hill Rd., Kennedy, NY.
Pre-registration is mandatory for all pets to receive vaccinations. Pet owners can register online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies and checking the calendar for upcoming clinics. Spots are limited, so early registration is encouraged. If registrants cannot attend, they are asked to cancel their appointments via the confirmation email to free up space for others.
Pet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot. All dogs should be on a leash, while cats and ferrets must be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will assist in transporting animals to the veterinarian.
New York State Public Health Law mandates that every dog, cat, and domesticated ferret over four months old be vaccinated against rabies. Residents are urged to comply with this requirement as responsible pet owners.
Rabies is a serious disease affecting warm-blooded animals and can be transmitted through saliva via bites or scratches. It affects the central nervous system and can lead to brain swelling and death shortly after symptoms appear.
