Allegany County officials proclaimed on Mar. 26 that the week of April 12-18, 2026, will be recognized as 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in Allegany County. The proclamation acknowledges the essential role played by public safety telecommunicators in ensuring health, safety, and well-being across the county.
The proclamation highlights that emergencies can occur at any time and require prompt response from police, fire, emergency medical services, or other critical personnel. It notes that “the safety of our police officers and firefighters is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who telephone the Allegany County 911 Communications Center.”
Public safety telecommunicators are described as “the first and most critical contact our citizens have with emergency services.” The statement emphasizes their role as first responders who provide vital information to law enforcement and emergency teams during crises. According to the proclamation, these professionals are not just anonymous voices but are integral to quick responses for those in need.
The document further states that “public safety telecommunicators at the Allegany County 911 Center have assisted with the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires, and treatment of patients,” calling their work invaluable in emergencies. It recognizes each telecommunicator’s compassion, understanding, and professionalism when assisting residents.
W. Brooke Harris, Chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators said: “Now therefore… I… DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the week of April 12-18, 2026 as 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in Allegany County.” The county encourages all residents to show appreciation for these unseen first responders throughout this designated week.
