St. Susan Center Receives 40,000 Pound Food Donation

JAMESTOWN, NY - The St. Susan Center, a soup kitchen based in Jamestown, New York, was the recipient of a substantial donation of 40,000 pounds of food, a gesture that exemplifies the spirit of compassion and unity within the community.

Cherie Rowland, the Executive Director of the St. Susan Center, expressed her gratitude and highlighted the significance of the donation, stating, "We hope this donation showcases togetherness and unity of effort sharing the food with all of the community showcasing the love we show at the St. Susan Center." She further added, "St. Susan’s is so grateful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for this enormous gift of 40,000 pounds of food."

The donation, orchestrated by Falconer, NY native Sam Ognibene, was made possible through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The arrival of a semi-truck laden with the generous donation marked a monumental moment for the St. Susan Center, as they continue their mission to provide meals and support services to those in need within the region.

In response to the donation, the center extended invitations to partners, pantries, community members, and local officials to partake in celebrating this significant contribution. The donated food items, all shelf-stable, will not only support the operations of the St. Susan Center but will also be distributed to Feedmore WNY and other local food pantries across Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

"This gift will enable us and so many other pantries in our area to meet the needs for food in our community," reiterated Cherie Rowland, emphasizing the transformative impact of the donation on the local food insecurity landscape.

The St. Susan Center, known for its unwavering dedication to serving the community, has set ambitious targets to provide meals to those in need, with plans to offer 60,000 meals by the end of 2024.
